Announcement of Interim Caucus Vote Saturday January 24th!

Your Vote! Your Way! Vote Yes on 1/24/26!

At our Annual Meeting on October 14, 2025, voters were asked to approve the Aldermen candidate slate and a Caucus Bylaws Amendment allowing the Caucus to offer on-line voting capability in addition to voting “in person.”  While overwhelmingly supported by the community (64.5% voted yes),  approval of this  Amendment was 21 votes short of reaching the required two-thirds majority.

Some background is helpful here: Between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. that evening, Metra experienced a system wide shut down causing commuters who ride the trains to be unable to get to Gorton to vote while voting remained open.  An on-line voting system would have allowed their votes to be counted. That evening and the following morning, Caucus members were inundated with calls and messages expressing the importance of having this capability and requesting that we have a second vote on the Amendment.

Rather than wait until the Spring meeting, we are holding an Interim Meeting on January 24, 2026 to vote on a new amendment to authorize on-line voting.  In addition, the proposed new amendment expressly confirms that the Caucus must continue “in-person” voting and makes other changes requested by community members. Please click here to read the proposed new amendment.

Lake Forest has over 15,000 registered voters. Fewer than 4.5% voted at the October 14 Annual Meeting. The number of voters at Caucus member meetings has almost always been as low or lower in recent years. Due to work, family and other demands of their busy lives, Lake Forest residents often have difficulty getting to the meetings to vote “in person.”  An on-line voting option would provide a practical avenue for ALL registered voters to be heard. Wouldn’t it be great to have 95% of our community voting!

Some have raised voting security concerns, which is also extremely important to the Caucus.  We completed a rigorous vetting process that resulted in having two potential service providers.  Both have superior cyber security systems that offer the same level of security as that used by major banks and financial institutions across the country. Neither of them has ever experienced a security breach.

The Caucus believes that the voices of all Lake Foresters should be heard and an on-line option allows those who cannot be physically present to participate in Caucus voting processes, while preserving the right to vote “in-person.”

Please also note that an update on the timeline for circulating a survey concerning other possible Bylaws amendments will be forthcoming soon.
