A Clarification of our Endorsement Process

We have recently become aware of some confusion in the community regarding the Caucus's endorsement process.  As the Caucus is actively engaged in vetting candidates for Mayor, Alderperson, and School Board, we wanted to take a moment to remind the community what the endorsement process will look like this year.

For over 90 years, the Lake Forest Caucus has vetted and recommended exceptional candidates for the elected and appointed positions that have made our city what it is today.  We are not changing that mission.  Consistent with that goal, the Caucus Committee will be vetting candidates for the elected positions and presenting our recommendations to the community at the Annual Meeting which will occur on Tuesday October 6th at the Gorton Center.  At the Annual Meeting, the Caucus Committee will present a candidate for Mayor and each of the open aldermanic seats as well as candidates to fill each of the open School Board positions.  The Caucus Committee will not be presenting multiple candidates for these positions at the Annual Meeting.

Only in the unexpected circumstance in which a vetted and recommended candidate does not receive a majority vote at the Annual Meeting will a second vote be held one week later.  The Caucus will, to the extent possible, seek to present two or more previously vetted candidates in this second vote for the community to consider. The candidate who receives a majority in the second vote will receive the Caucus endorsement.

The Caucus Committee does not expect that a second vote will be necessary. We are hard at work examining and interviewing candidates to put forth a slate that we believe reflects the best possible candidates to lead Lake Forest.  However, given the recent confusion about this process, the Caucus Committee wanted to reiterate that the previously announced procedure remains in place.
