Thank You to All Who Took the Time to Vote!

THANK YOU to all who took the time to vote!  Although not the required two-thirds majority required to approve a bylaws amendment, 62.8% of the community, an overwhelming majority, voted in favor of electronic voting.

Many residents may not really understand the role of the Caucus.  Briefly, the Caucus was founded in 1935 as a non-partisan committee of volunteers.  Since then, Lake Foresters have benefitted from civic leaders not tethered by political partisanship in a system that encourages and facilitates community participation.  The Caucus Committee is comprised of 9 representatives from each of our four wards plus 7 officers.  As terms are only for 3 years, each ward elects 3 new representatives each Spring.  We hope you'll consider volunteering to serve on the Caucus Committee in the future and join our fantastic group of volunteers. To learn more, please visit our website - lakeforestcaucus.com and complete a volunteer profile sheet (VPS).

What does the Lake Forest Caucus do?  A very basic description is that the Caucus is the City of Lake Forest's "HR department" for its numerous elected positions and boards/commissions.  We interview, select and recommend volunteers to serve in these positions. In the case of elected positions, we endorse candidates whose names appear on the General Election ballot in the Spring. Caucus Committee members confer with City administrators to understand the knowledge, work experience, and other talents that are important for the positions being filled.  Caucus search committees then screen and interview all volunteers who have completed a VPS for that position. The final candidates are interviewed by the Caucus Committee who vote on which candidate is then recommended to the Mayor for appointment (in the case of a board or commission) or for ratification by the full Caucus Membership at our Annual Meeting (in the case of candidates for Mayor, Alderperson, and School Board).

Presently, we are interviewing candidates for recommendation to the Audit Board. If you would like to apply, please immediately complete a VPS.

Lake Forest has many successful and knowledgeable residents with a wealth of experience.  Oftentimes, a volunteer who wasn't chosen is an excellent fit for another position and is contacted for that.  We recommend residents who are objective, non-agenda driven, and willing to donate their time and talents, for a position that is a good fit for them.

The Caucus Committee does not receive any financial support from the City of Lake Forest.  We rely solely on the civic generosity of our residents and hope you'll consider supporting the Caucus by making a donation.  The volunteer work of the Caucus saves taxpayers from having to pay for the services the Caucus provides on a regular and ongoing basis.

Thank you.
