We Pick People, Not Politics
Every year, the Lake Forest Caucus Committee sits across the table from residents who want to serve Lake Forest. We ask about budgets, about how a candidate handles disagreement, and about why they want the job. We do not ask how a candidate votes in November. Candidates come to us with all kinds of views. Lake Forest is home to people from across the political spectrum, but party politics stay outside the room. What we weigh is experience, knowledge of the issues, and a commitment to putting the community’s best interest ahead of personal views. There are 43 of us on the Caucus Committee, from all four Wards. We each have our own political views, but we are mindful not to bring them into our decisions. We also represent a diverse cross section of the community, reflecting older and younger residents, long term Lake Forest residents and recent arrivals, and varying professional experiences. What we share is a commitment to judging every candidate on their merits and fit for the role, and finding the best possible candidates to serve our community and maintain it as the city we have all grown to love. For more than 90 years, this approach has given Lake Forest a local government that works for everyone and has been an exemplar for the North Shore. Join us today from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Grotto of the Gorton Center to meet the candidates that the Caucus Committee has vetted and enthusiastically put forth for endorsement at our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 6 at Gorton Center from 12:00 until 8:00 PM. Every registered Lake Forest voter can vote on our recommendations made through this non-partisan process. Lake Forest Caucus |
