Electronic Voting will be a huge step forward in empowering ALL Lake Forest registered voters. It will help make effective exercise of Caucus voting rights a practical reality for ALL, which will benefit our entire community.
In order to pass, this Amendment requires a 2/3rds “YES” vote of those who vote. Please appear at Gorton TOMORROW between 2-8 pm and vote “YES” for this Amendment!
Benefits of this Amendment:
Electronic voting will NOT eliminate “in person” voting: it will be an optional way to vote for those who register to do so.
Out of the 15,454 Lake Forest registered voters, upwards of 99% typically do not participate in Caucus voting, many because they cannot appear in person on voting day due to work, school, child-care and a wide variety of other commitments.
35 countries and governments including the US have been using electronic voting for decades in a variety of elections.
It will increase voter participation and civic engagement by enabling college students, military service members, the disabled, the sick or hospitalized, those who can’t drive, are out of town due to personal or business travel, or who work in downtown Chicago or other counties, to vote.
Vote outcomes will be more representative of the community at large.
Confidential information will not be disclosed if you register to vote electronically.
Hacking fears are baseless - neither the Caucus nor vendors have ever been hacked.
Municipalities, political parties, universities, bar associations, boards, and numerous other types of institutions and businesses use electronic voting.
The Caucus’s independent Bylaws advisory committee proposed and supports it.
Electronic voting costs are not an issue - the Caucus is funded by private donations.
Electronic voting is reliable and confidential.
